Mona Passage
Boat dive · Whale watching
The channel between Mona Island and the main island, where humpback whales pass through in the winter months — spectacular breaching and socialising in family groups.

About this site
The Mona Passage is the deep channel between Mona Island and Puerto Rico, and one of the best places in the Caribbean to encounter humpback whales. Between December and March they migrate through these waters, and divers on boats in the area are often treated to spectacular breaching displays as the whales socialise in family groups. This is open-ocean boat diving with no reef — the draw is the encounter itself.
